Study in Beijing 北京

China's capital — history, top universities and big-city opportunities.

Beijing is the capital of China and its political, cultural and education centre. It is home to many of the country's best-known universities, national research institutes and the headquarters of large companies, so students have good chances for internships and networking. The city mixes ancient sights such as the Forbidden City and the Great Wall with modern districts, and has a large international community.

🌤 Weather & climate

Four clear seasons. Summers (June–August) are hot and can be humid; winters (December–February) are cold and dry, often below freezing. Spring can be windy and dusty. Bring warm winter clothes.

💰 Cost of living

One of the more expensive cities in China, mainly for off-campus rent. Living in a university dorm and eating in campus canteens keeps daily costs manageable. Use the cost calculator for an estimate in Taka.

🍜 Food & halal options

Huge choice of food. Halal (清真 qīngzhēn) restaurants are common, especially Hui and Uyghur restaurants serving noodles, lamb and bread, and many campuses have a halal canteen window.

🚄 Getting around

Very large subway network, buses and shared bikes. High-speed trains connect Beijing to most big cities. Two international airports (Capital and Daxing).

💡 Tips for students in Beijing

  • Get a local SIM card and set up a mobile payment app soon after arrival
  • The university district (Haidian) is where many campuses are
  • Winter heating is central — rooms are warm, outside is very cold
  • Visit the Great Wall on a weekday to avoid crowds
